James Botham receives shock call-up to the Wales squad ahead of Georgia clash

Cardiff Blues flanker James Botham has received a shock call-up to the Wales squad ahead of the game against Georgia this weekend.

The abrasive 22-year-old was due to start for the Welsh region against Benetton in the Guinness PRO14 but has been withdrawn from that fixture.

Botham, who has come through the region's academy system, has played four games this season, impressing on each occasion but missing last weekend's defeat to Edinburgh with a niggle.

He has averaged 16 tackles per match this season, with a tackle success rate of 96%.

Winger Johnny McNicholl has also been added to the Wales squad after missing out on initial selection due to injury.

He impressed in the region's win over Connacht over the weekend.

There is no indication that any players have left the Wales squad at this point, although flanker Ross Moriarty is struggling with an ankle injury.

Botham and McNicholl are now in line to feature against Georgia on Saturday evening.
