James Borrego reacts to historical game with multiple female officials: ‘It’s a special night’

A small, yet significant piece of NBA history was made on Monday night. While female officials have been prevalent in the NBA for some time, Monday marked the first time two females officiated the same game in league history.

Prior to the game, Hornets head coach James Borrego spoke about the momentous achievement.

“I think it’s a special night for our league and for women,” he said. “I look at someone like my daughter, who will be watching tonight, and it’s a big step. I love that I’m a part of a league that is breaking barriers. Tonight, I’m proud to be a part of that game. It’s a wonderful thing. I know my daughter’s proud and she’s watching and it inspires her and inspires young people, young women to do more, be more…and break those barriers.

“It’s fantastic. I think it’s a wonderful thing (not just) for our league but for women in general, our league in general, the basketball world and for young girls throughout our world, our country.”

Prior to the game, Fox Sports Southeast’s Ashley ShahAhmadi discussed the careers of both Jenna Schroeder and Natalie Sogo, the two officials.
