James Bond producers want Helena Bonham Carter to play a villain

With Danny Boyle officially set to direct the next Daniel Craig-starring James Bond film, the producers are eagerly working on completing the movie’s cast.

Reports have emerged that Helena Bonham Carter is currently the favourite to play the villain. The actor has a history of playing a brilliant nemesis, having starred as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter movies and the Red Queen in Alice and Wonderland.

“Everyone thinks Angelina Jolie is going to get the part but bosses want Helena more,” an insider told The Mirror. “At the moment they are just finalising the cast.”

Should Jolie take the role over Bonham Carter, it would mark her second time acting alongside Craig, the pair having both starred in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

According to the same report, Boyle and Craig are currently working on a shooting schedule, the actor also taking a key creative role on the film.

The next Bond movie — the 25th in the series — is scheduled to reach UK cinemas on the 25 October 2019, with Ben Whishaw having already confirmed his return to the franchise.
