Iconic James Bond posters sell for almost £230,000

The world’s largest collection of James Bond posters made a killing at auction - selling for almost a quarter of a million pounds.

The huge offering of 007 memorabilia up for sale included a host of rarities, including a set of US door panel posters for 1965 thriller Thunderball which sold for an eye-watering £12,500.

Other items include a bespoke poster for Goldfinger designed for the Subway in the US, which sold for £8.125, and a set of posters for every Bond film.

There were nearly 500 posters on sale in total, which brought in a total of £227,500.

The lots all came from the Adam Carter-Jones James Bond Poster Collection, which was auctioned off by memorabilia specialists Prop Store online and at its headquarters in Rickmansworth, Herts., on Tuesday.

Mike Bloomfield, Prop Store’s poster expert, spoke about the auction: "This was an ambitious single collector auction with everything being James Bond.

"Global interest delivered a gross of over £227,500 which just shows how vibrant the poster auction market is right now.”

Prop Store CEO, Stephen Lane added: “This was a ground-breaking auction for us being the largest ever auction of James Bond posters anywhere in the world.

"We are hugely delighted with the breadth of international interest and expect this auction to be a real catalyst for three more blockbuster poster auctions in 2020.”
