James Bond: Goldfinger hat valued at £30,000 on Antiques Roadshow

An original prop from the James Bond film Goldfingerwas valued at nearly £30,000 on Antiques Roadshowon Sunday.

A selection of items from the 1964 spy thriller were brought to the roadshow by a man whose brother-in-law had worked on the film as a driver for Aston Martin.

In charge of ferrying the cast from their hotels to Pinewood Studios everyday, the driver had asked if he could take home a bowler hat, which is also used as a weapon, belonging to Oddjob (Harold Sakata), Goldfinger’s henchman.

Pointing out where the steel had been cut out of the hat for safety reasons and that the item had been damaged from years of play, presenter Marc Allum was clearly impressed with the “iconic” item, valuing it at between £20,000 to £30,000.

“My gosh, you gave it a hard time,” Allum joked. “I wish it were in better condition, but boys will be boys.”

Additionally, a “JB 007” number plate suspected to have been used during the film’s promotion was estimated to fetch between £4000 and £6000 in auction.

Goldfingerstarred Sean Connery as secret agent Bond, while Honor Blackman played Bond girl Pussy Galore.
