James Bond movie Land Rover Defender up for auction

A VERY rare and special Land Rover Defender used in the James Bond film Spectre is set to star in Silverstone Auctions’ live online sale later this month.

Producers commissioned 10 110 Defenders from Land Rover for the 2015 spy movie and then got specialist modifiers Bowler Motorsport to convert them into the ultimate getaway cars.

Bowler Motorsport added huge 37in tyres, a heavy-duty roll-cage, stiffened up the suspension and installed a hydraulic handbrake to spice up the action. The engine was also tuned to 180bhp.

There were two specifications of 007 cars produced – one for the high-speed getaway road cars and the other for the snow scenes, of which this is an example. Three of the Defenders were destroyed during filming, so only seven now survive and this one is expected to fetch up to £240,000.

Silverstone Auctions boss Nick Whale said: “Anything from the Bond franchise attracts worldwide interest and this Land Rover is almost as it was from the day it left the film set. This is a rare opportunity not to be missed.”

The Spectre Land Rover is one of a number of tasty vehicles up for grabs at the internet auction on May 23. Others include a 2000 Bentley Continental R Mulliner Widebody (one of only 46 ever built) and a 2005 Aston Martin Vanquish S.

Also among the fascinating lots is a Ford GT40 masterminded by the late racer Terry Drury, a 1982 Ferrari 512 BBi, a sumptuous 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster and a fastidiously restored 1971 Lotus Europa.
