James Bond: Dame Judi Dench says husband was "mad keen" for Bond woman

Judi Dench had a very personal reason for why she became M.

The beloved British actress Dame Judi Dench revealed to the Daily Star while she took the role of M in the James Bond franchise, beginning with the 1995 hit Pierce Brosnan film Goldeneye.

Dench revealed: "I didn't know anything about M. I just thought the writing was really witty. My husband was mad keen that I should do it, so he could say he lived with a Bond woman!"

Dench's actor husband Michael Williams passed away in 2001, meaning he saw his wife in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and The World Is Not Enough (1999).

The actress would go on to play the role once more alongside Brosnan in Die Another Day (2002), before returning for the reboot films with Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and SPECTRE (2015).

"It went down so well with my grandson's friends. These little boys would come and you'd seem them look...'Yes, it's me! One step out of line and I'll have to lock you up!"

Meanwhile, her daughter "got to meet Pierce Brosnan" and Dench had "never, ever seen a reaction like it. Everything turned to rubber!".

The actress recently revealed that she was Bond 25: Dame Judi Dench backs Idris Elba as next James Bond the role of 007 after Craig was finished with the character.
