James Bond beats Indiana Jones and Jason Bourne as UK's top film hero

James Bond has beaten the living daylights out of his tough-guy rivals in a poll to find the nation’s top film hero.

The superspy saw off the likes of Indiana Jones, Forrest Gump and Jason Bourne.

And 007, played by heartthrobs including Daniel Craig, was a hit with one in five women asked. He got 24% of the total vote in the poll by Showcase Cinemas, with Indie on 19% and Robin Hood and Superman tied with 10%.

When it came to the ultimate villain, cannibal Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs was the winner, followed by Darth Vader and Joker.

James Bond has most recently been played by Daniel Craig (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer)

Mark Barlow, from Showcase, said: “James Bond has been a constant of British cinema for decades, and it seems rather fitting that with No Time to Die on the horizon, 007 is named as the ultimate big screen hero.

“And who can argue with Hannibal Lecter taking top spot as the nation’s favourite villain?

“These are the type of characters made for the big screen.”
