James Bond 25: Daniel Craig's 12-hour workout and gruelling diet for 007

Daniel Craig first starred as James Bond nearly 13 years ago, but he's still determined to have as buff of a bod as he did then.

The scene where the actor emerges from the water in Casino Royale was a hit, and it looks like Daniel Craig is set on getting that look again for his final Bond outing in 2020.

Filming on the as yet unnamed 25th Bond film began in Norway on Monday with sources telling the Mail on Sunday that the 51-year-old is putting the work in to get back to his beach look.

Craig underwent 12-hour daily workout sessions in the lead up to filming as well as sticking to a gruelling diet.  Yes, you read that right, 12 hours.

The role is physically demanding so it's no surprise Craig is keen to keep in shape, though 12-hours a day sounds a bit intense to us.

"Being Bond requires a lot of energy and he is determined to make sure he is ready for it," the source told the Mail. "It’s an action movie and he wants to give it his absolute best. Everyone is anticipating him looking amazing when he finally puts on that tux for the last time."

For previous films Craig has spent mornings doing cardio, which could be something like running, then an hour of weights.

How he manages that after just becoming a father, with wife Rachel Weisz recently giving birth, is beyond us.

Maybe this is the time to remind them all that Ian Fleming's Bond packed away the booze, smoked like a chimney and burnt the candle at both ends - there wasn't a bar bell in sight.

We expect there's a bit of extra focus on making this Bond movie special after all Bond 25 is Craig's last film as 007, with speculation already hotting up over who will take over the coveted role.

James Bond bosses 'ask Sam Heughan to audition' for 007 as Daniel Craig exits with the 38-year-old Scotsman apparently getting a call to audition from producer Barbara Broccoli.

This is just a rumour really as Broccoli has said herself she won't look for her next Bond until the latest film is in cinemas and that isn't until 2020.

The release date for the film was pushed back after delays and a few setbacks.

Danny Boyle left the project over "creative differences", which is rumoured to be his wish to kill off Bond.

Craig also delayed shooting so he could star in Knives Out.

Now things are back on track and it seems as if Craig's dedicated workouts and filming are going well.

Bond 25 will be released in cinemas on April 3, 2020.
