James Blunt will be hosting a “cheerful” hospital radio show during the coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing the new programme, titled The Greatest Hour, the singer quipped: “I was flown in to lower morale over the airwaves and hopefully take people’s mind’s off things while they’re doing this incredible job.”

The show, which will reach 170 hospital stations, will include “an array of feel-good tunes and loads of gratitude to those working in the frontlines”.

Blunt recently released his song “The Greatest”, with all profits being donated to the NHS and WHO.

In March, the singer had joked he would be sparing people by not sharing live music while in isolation.

“During lockdown, while many other artists are doing mini-concerts from their homes, I thought I’d do you all a favour and not,” he tweeted.

A number of artists, including Glass Animals, Christine and the Queens, and Chris Martin from Coldplay, have performed livestreams to fans where they sing their own songs as well as covers.
