James Blunt has revealed how he attempted to defend his property when he thought someone was trying to break into it.

The 48-year-old former army officer-turned-singer, whose hits include You’re Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover, had already been the victim of three previous break-ins, but he had been out of the house each occasion.

This time, when he thought he heard a window smash, he sprang into action.

“I kind of tooled up, so I was running round the house with various weaponry — naked — and discovered it was a picture that had broken off a wall!”

“But my wife was impressed,” Blunt — who is married to socialite Sofia Wellesley, with whom he shares two sons — added to Mail Online.

Elsewhere, he recently opened up about past fashion disasters while appearing as a guest on Amanda Wakeley’s Style DNA podcast.

One incident which particulary stuck with him was when he said he turned up to one of Sir Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara parties “looking like a waiter” and “felt like a prat”.

He explained: “Sometimes if I’m given the instruction then I’ll turn up as instructed! So I did turn up to Elton John and David Furnish’s white tie and tiara party, I’d just left the army and become a pop star.

“So I’d just gone out and hired a white tie and tiara. And turned up looking ridiculous. And everyone else was pop stars and they just turned up as pop stars!

He added: “So I was the only one, looking like a waiter and looking like a pratt. And so I learned the hard way, I won’t be doing that again.”
