James Blunt makes emotional plea on Good Morning Britain to find a kidney donor for sick father

James Blunt used his scheduled appearance on Good Morning Britain to make an emotional plea to the public for a reason close to his heart.

The You're Beautiful singer was on the early morning ITV programme to discuss the release of his new album, Once Upon a Mind.

But when he began to speak to show hosts Ben Shepard and Kate Garraway, James asked them, and the public watching at home, what may have seemed like a bizarre question.

"I've come on here to ask you what blood group you are," the 45-year-old told them.

The reason is that James is trying to find a kidney donor for his sick father after revealing that he had been tested but was not a match.

"Some things have been going on in my life that I've needed to write about," he said in reference to one of the songs on his new album in which he discussed what he wanted to say in the event of his father's death.

James continued: "My father's not very well actually, he needs a new kidney and a kidney donor.

"And I've come on here to ask you what blood group you are. If you are an O-positive I'll take it off you."

Speaking of the song, the clearly emotional singer added: "Really that has been an amazing moment. Because when you realise your father's mortality it's a great opportunity to say the things I'd like to say to him.

"So I have written a song called Monsters for him. It says I'm not your son, you're not my father, we are just two grown men saying goodbye.

"No need to forgive, no need to forget, I know your mistakes and you know mine."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV from 6.30am every weekday.
