James Blunt faces backlash after claiming 'Brexit won't change our lives'

Singer James Blunt has faced a backlash on social media after claiming "our lives aren't going to change" after Brexit.

Speaking to the Independent the musician urged politicians to "get the f*** on with it" saying Brexit was "pretty much bulls***".

The interview caused a stir on social media with many, who believe their lives will be affected by the UK's impending departure from the EU, hitting back at his comments.

The You're Beautiful singer was called out on his "ignorant" views and for being a "privately educated millionaire" by angry Twitter users.

One said: "Oh look. Another rich guy who won’t be affected in the slightest calling for something that will f*** up the lives of the poor and the vulnerable to be pushed through because he’ll be just fine. Gross."

In the interview, James Blunt refused to disclose which way he voted in the 2016 referendum but told the paper's Ed Cumming: "I’m going to carry on touring through Europe whatever happens.

"Rather than having a title on it, my call to arms would be ‘get the f*** on with it’, because our lives aren’t going to change.

"My tour manager is going to be pissed off he has to fill in a few more forms, but whatever you do, get on with it, because the limbo is killing us.”

The singer has been trending on the social media platform this morning following his controversial Brexit comments.

Another Twitter user commented: "Well, @JamesBlunt, my life IS going to change. My husband will lose his contract, and with it, our home and life in the city we love. My kids will lose their school and friends, but that's ok, because it won't affect you."

And another said: "Oh look, another wealthy 'I'm alright, Jack'. Hope once everyone is so poor after Brexit they start to burn his sh*** albums for heat."

The multi-millionaire, who is married to Sofia Wellesley, a London lawyer and descendant of the Duke of Wellington, was educated at Harrow and served in the British Army for six years.

He is well known for his sarcastic comebacks on Twitter and often pokes fun at his own career, which peaked with his first studio album Back to Bedlam.

His second release, All The Lost Souls, was less successful but still managed to top the charts around the world.

Speaking about recent reviews of his music he admitted he tends to "gravitate towards the negative".

He said his witty replies to critics were a way of "laughing at myself for taking this person seriously, when so many other people give me so much positive feedback".

"If you’re asking me, ‘where did it all go wrong?’, the answer is no,” he said, making reference to fans who "turn up in their f***ing thousands" and "queue up in the rain" for his shows.

James Blunt is currently promoting his sixth studio album Once Upon a Mind, which is out on October 25.
