James Bisgrove to miss Rangers' trip to Cyprus amid manager search

James Bisgrove will not travel to Cyprus for Rangers' next Europa League fixture, it can be revealed.

The Ibrox side faces Aris Limassol on matchday two of the group stage this Thursday.

Steven Davis, Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart will take the first team for the match as Rangers looks to build on their 1-0 win over Real Betis last time out.

A shorter trip to Paisley then lies in wait on Sunday prior to the international break, as the club aims to find a permanent successor to Michael Beale.

And in order to continue that process, Bisgrove will stay behind Glasgow as he fronts the search for the club's new manager.

It's believed that the club has come up with a shortlist of potential candidates to replace Beale, who was sacked on Sunday night.

Bisgrove and chairman John Bennett will conduct interviews next week as they take their time over appointing the right person for the job.

Kevin Muscat is said to be at the forefront of their minds, with the ex-Rangers defender high on the list of candidates to succeed Beale.

Other names that have been touted for the job include Derek McInnes, Kjetil Knutsen and Pascal Jansen.

One coach Rangers are definitely not interested in the services of is Preston's Ryan Lowe.

It's Chelsea legend Frank Lampard who has emerged as the bookies' favourite to become the new Rangers manager.

The 45-year-old was last in interim charge of the Stamford Bridge side last season after Graham Potter was sacked and now he has been tipped to take over from Beale at Ibrox.

Several bookmakers now have the ex-England international as the favourite to take the reigns at Ibrox.

Muscat and AZ Alkmaar's Jansen are also linked with the role. A large amount of bets have caused the odds to be slashed on Lampard to as short as 2/1, according to Betfair and other sites.

Earlier today, he was 20/1. Oddschecker spokesperson Sam Eaton said: "There's been a huge influx of bets for Frank Lampard to take the Rangers job in the last hour.

"The Chelsea legend has accounted for 86 per cent of bets in that time."
