James Argent says he's lost over two stone since life-saving gastric surgery

James Argent has said that he has lost two and a half stone since having his life-saving gastric band surgery.

TOWIE star Arg, 33, said in January that he had been warned that he would die if he didn't lose the pounds after his weight escalated to its heaviest at 27 stone.

Arg struggled with his weight in lockdown when he stopped exercising and replaced drink and drugs with fast food.

He went on to have the life-changing operation earlier this month and vowed that it would be the "first day of the rest of [his] life".

Appearing on Loose Women today, Arg said that he was "absolutely" so happy to have had the surgery.

"I'm so pleased sitting here two and a half months after the operation," he told lead panelist Ruth Langsford. "The weight is gradually coming off... I definitely feel like I made the right decision."

Questioned about how much weight he had lost so far, he said: "Since I started the pre-op diet I've already lost two and a half stone."

Arg said that he is starting to recognise himself in the mirror and that his "looks are coming back".

"It's a big life change for me but I'm so glad I went ahead," he said.

Opening up about his recovery, he said that it had been "pretty hard" and a "shock to the system".

"The battle is more mentally," he said. "I've been on nothing much more than liquids for the last two weeks."

Arg also gave a shout-out to his friends and family, who he said he was "so lucky" were supporting him.

"I've been able to remain clean and sober for a year and four months but if I was 27 stone I was aware I couldn't be healthy and happy," he added.

Arg went on to say that he was excited for the future - including getting back to his singing gigs, one of which had been at Elliott Wright's Marbella restaurant Olivia's La Cala.

Former TOWIE star Elliott recently uploaded a video showing what was left of his restaurant after an alleged arson attack.

Giving a shout out to Elliott, Arg said that Olivia's was "set on fire", adding: "We're all rooting for him.

Probed on what were his dreams for the future, Arg said: "I'm fortunate enough to have a family home in Essex but I'm the only one living there - I'd like to meet someone."
