James' plans to get in shape come after he received worrying news while visiting a doctor during the first episode of Sink or Swim For Stand Up To Cancer.

Arg, who has put on 10 stone in two years, went to see if he was medically fit for his swim across the English Channel.

Sport scientist Dr Greg White had some harsh home truths to deliver to the reality TV favourite.

He said: "He's morbidly obese. Almost half of his bodyweight is composed of fat and a lot of that fat is around the organs. Very bad in terms of long-term outcome."

As well as raising awareness for Stand Up To Cancer, Arg said he also wanted to kick start his weightloss journey and begin a healthy lifestyle.

Arg opened up on fears about his heart after his dad suffered heart problems shortly before he started filming for the show.

Arg recently appeared on Swim For Stand Up To Cancer (Channel 4)

He told the doctor: "I am very worried about my heart because of how unfit I am and my dad has had heart problems recently. Literally only a week or two ago he had a pace maker fitted."

Before he started pedalling, Arg asked: "Am I actually pretty fit in a weird way for a big guy?"

When the results came back the doctor revealed that his heart looked good but there was a lot of work to be done on his fitness.

However, from a health perspective he was good to take part in the swim across the Channel.

The doctor added: "You don’t get to 50% body fat by being proactive about your health."
