James 'Arg' Argent 'signs up for Celebrity SAS to deal with his past demons'

James 'Arg' Argent has reportedly signed up for Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The former Only Way Is Essex star - who has lost a staggering 14 stone since having gastric band surgery last year - is reportedly keen to sign up to a new series of Celebrity SAS, which puts celebrities through their paces and tests them both physically and mentally.

Arg lost a staggering amount of weight following his surgery. He had previously explained how he reached a huge 27 stone and felt he needed to make a change, later deciding to focus on his health and fitness with the help of the gastric band.

A source told OK!: "He's decided to sign up because he's in great health now, he's sober, he's doing it to try and deal with some of the demons from his past. He'll talk about the mental health aspects of getting clean and sober and losing weight."

Arg had previously confessed he was worried about getting "too complacent or carried away".

"It feels good. At the moment I'm going to sleep excited for the next day and I'm waking up positive and full of energy, and just life's really good at the moment," he said, "I've just gotta make sure I don't get too complacent or carried away, I've gotta remember where I was before and stuff and always keep working every day, do you know what I mean?"

The reality star and singer had previously credited his mum Patricia - who lives just four doors down from him - for helping him get the help he needed for his weight loss as well as issues with his wider health and struggles with addiction.

"My mum said to me, ‘I don’t recognise my son any more’ - and that really got me," he shared to The Mirror.

"It played on my mind and it was a big turning point for me wanting to change. It’s been one hell of a journey and it’s kind of brought us closer as a family. I’m not ashamed of anything. My mum means the world to me. We’re obviously very, very close."

A representative for Arg has been contacted for comment.

Arg described his weight loss journey as the "best thing" he ever did.

"It was the best thing I ever did. It’s important you don’t forget how bad things were – and to make sure I am continually working on myself," he said, "Now we are positive and moving forward. One day at a time."

Patricia added of her son: "I didn’t recognise him when he had put all that amount of weight on and I was just so worried. It was his health. I was petrified. Now I feel like we’re closer as a family. He’s getting on, looking after himself."
