The SPFL have held positive talks with investor James Anderson over providing a cash lifeline to crisis-stricken Scottish football.
Record Sport unveiled Anderson as the potential benefactor referenced by Hearts owner Ann Budge at the weekend.
The philanthropist has pledged a multi-million pound donation to the SPFL and its 42 member clubs which could help drag them through the hardships of the coronavirus pandemic.
SPFL chief-executive Neil Doncaster insists Anderson's offer is "extremely generous" and has vowed to fast-track discussions in order to finalise a "concrete proposal.
He said: “We had a very constructive and worthwhile discussion with James and we agreed on the need to progress things as swiftly as possible.
"The offer from James is an extremely generous one and we have committed to work together to quickly iron out the details and develop a concrete proposal which could make a significant difference to our 42 clubs.”
Anderson has ploughed £9million in Hearts in recent years but was at pains to stress his involvement now is not an enducement to save the Jambos from relegation.
Budge will this week discover whether clubs will back her proposal for a 14-14-14 setup for the next two seasons.
Anderson, however, was clear the two issues should not be conflated.
He confirmed: “These commitments are not dependent on league reconstruction. They are not contingent. They are to help in a desperate situation.”
