James Anderson and Virat Kohli break Sachin Tendulkar records in England vs India Test

During the fourth Test between England and India at The Oval, both James Anderson and Virat Kohli broke records previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

The Test was Anderson's 95th in England and means he has now played more games at home than any other cricketer, overtaking Tendulkar who had played 94 Tests in India.

It is Anderson's 166th Test match in total, meaning he has now gone level with Jacques Kallis in the all-time list.

Ahead of him are former Australian captains Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh, who played 168 Tests, and Tendulkar, who played 200.

Kohli, meanwhile, became the fastest batter to score 23,000 international runs across all formats, reaching the milestone in just 490 innings.

That record was previously held by Tendulkar, who managed to score 23,000 runs in 522 innings.

Going into the game, Kohli had scored 7,671 runs in Tests, 12,169 in ODIs, and 3,159 in T20Is, meaning he needed to score just one run to reach 23,000.

Kohli has also become just the seventh person in history to reach this milestone, joining Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, Jacqus Kallis and Rahul Dravid.

The Indian captain also holds the record as the fastest batter to score 22,000 international runs, 21,000 international runs and 20,000 international runs, highlighting what a remarkable cricketer he is.

However, in the ongoing series against England, Kohli has not been at his best.

Ahead of the Test at The Oval, Kohli was averaging just 24.80 and had made just one half-century.

He has also not made a hundred in international cricket since November 2019.

However, Kohli is not concerned by the drought, saying: "I never played for hundreds in my life, probably why I ended up getting so many in such a short while.

"It’s more important for the team to win. If I get a three-figure score and the team doesn’t win, it means nothing."
