Jamel Herring eyeing up 'mid June' date for Carl Frampton showdown

Jamel Herring believes a fight with Carl Frampton could happen in "mid June".

The pair remain on course for a massive showdown in Belfast later this year.

On the line will be Herring's WBO world super-featherweight title.

It offers Frampton the chance to become Ireland's first-ever three-weight world champion.

And it is a challenge Herring appears firmly up for.

The former US Marine is willing to travel, and seemed to suggest on Twitter that both camps were closing in on a deal.

He said on Wednesday: "Still waiting to sign some paperwork, but I’m now hearing mid June."

Replying to another comment, Herring said: "Trust me I wanted to attempt to fight 3 times this year but the business of the sport slows a lot of progress."

Speculation is mounting over where the fight would be held, with both the SSE Arena and Windsor Park being mentioned.

The majority of fans are backing Windsor - which boasts a larger capacity - to host the bout.

Asked if will happen at The National Stadium, Herring said: "I honestly don’t know but I’m sure that’s where it’ll land at since it’s been in high demand."
