Jamel Herring casts some doubt on Carl Frampton fight happening next

Jamel Herring has cast some doubt on his world title defence against Carl Frampton happening next.

The pair were scheduled to fight at Windsor Park on June 13 but that was cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It has since been suggested that the WBO super-featherweight world title showdown could be moved to Madison Square Garden, while Top Rank chief Bob Arum remains confident is can still happen in Belfast.

When that is remains to be seen, with champion Herring now claiming he may need a tune up fight before facing Frampton.

Speaking to ESPN's Steve Kim, the 34-year-old said: “I’m thinking I’m going to have to take a tune-up bout, or something in-between."

Herring says he hopes a fight with the Jackal will happen "sooner rather than later".

The former US Marine added: That's definitely the fight I want. That's definitely the fight people want to see."
