Jamal Lewis to Newcastle United? Premier League club has bid accepted for defender

Norwich City have accepted a bid of £13.5m from Newcastle United for Northern Ireland defender Jamal Lewis.

The 22-year-old is currently on international duty and played in Friday night's 1-1 draw against Romania in Bucharest.

Lewis was recently a target of Premier League champions Liverpool who reportedly had a £10m bid rejected.

Norwich were said to be holding out for a sum closer to £20m, and while Newcastle's bid falls short of that figure it is understood their bid is set to rise significantly depending on performance-related add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Speaking on Friday, Norwich boss Daniel Farke said he would not sell Lewis for £100m if he was deciding on the defender's future, adding the left-back "knows how important he is and how much I value him".

Norwich have been active in the transfer market following their relegation to the Championship.

They completed their 11th signing on Friday, securing the loan of Burnley defender Ben Gibson for the season with the potential to buy the player for £8 million based on promotion.
