Jamal Lewis to Liverpool: Champions considering transfer bid for Norwich City left-back

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis.

The 22-year-old caught the eye of scouts with his performances for the Canaries last season, despite their relegation from the Premier League after just a single campaign.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for back-up to his first choice on the left-hand side of defence, Andy Robertson, and is willing to pay up to £10m for Lewis.

It remains to be seen, however, whether the Northern Irishman would be willing to come in as an understudy initially.

The Reds’ pursuit of then-Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly fell through last summer when the Englishman opted for more playing time at Bournemouth.

With Liverpool’s recruitment staff having been unhappy with the manner in which Kelly’s representatives communicated that decision, a second move was never considered.

That has helped cement Lewis as a major target, along with Norwich's interest in Reds academy defender Yasser Larouci.

The Algerian qualifies for homegrown status this summer having spent three years in England - a factor that makes him all the more attractive to potential suitors.

Leeds United and Brentford have also been credited with an interest, but Liverpool hope to strike a deal that would see Lewis and Larouci essentially swap places.
