Jamal Lewis says he 'will fight' for Newcastle United in stirring social media post

Newcastle United defender Jamal Lewis says he will "fight for this team until the very last minute" in a stirring social media post.

The Northern Ireland left-back kept his place in Eddie Howe's side for the 1-0 win over Burley, having made his first Premier League start of the season in the 1-1 draw with Norwich five days earlier.

Matt Ritchie was available after a serving a one-match suspension, but Howe kept faith with Lewis following an impressive performance against the Canaries.

He played the full 90 minutes against Burnley and was tremendous going forward, defending the line and making crucial tackles, helping Newcastle achieve their first win of the season and move off the bottom of the table.

After the match, Lewis posted a stirring message on social media: “I will fight for this team until the very last minute. Thank you for the support!”

Along with the comment he posted photographs of him crossing the ball against Burnley and in a huddle with his Newcastle teammates.

James Lascelles, who was also called back into the team by Howe and also earned his place, replied: “My bro” with a heart emoji.

Isaac Hayden, who has lost his place, also responded, saying: “Top class again.”

While Jacob Murphy, who came on as a substitute, wrote: “Bro bro.”

Two hours after Lewis' post there were over 200 complimentary comments and over a dozen of his teammates had liked the post.
