Jamal Lewis' Newcastle United dressing room observation and what it tells him ahead of 'six-pointer'

Jamal Lewis believes Newcastle United can 'definitely' finish in the top 10 if the Magpies 'get firing' and 'get on the same page'.

The Magpies are looking to bounce back once again following back-to-back defeats against Southampton and Chelsea earlier this month.

Newcastle travel to Crystal Palace on Friday night and the black-and-whites can leapfrog the Eagles into 10th place with a victory at Selhurst Park.

It is still very early in the season but Lewis admits that the game almost feels like a 'six-pointer' because Palace could be 'around' his side come the end of the campaign.

"I look around the dressing room and even before I came, I saw that if this team can get firing, we're definitely a top-half table team," he told NUFC TV.

"We just need to get things right and get on the same page sometimes.

"Obviously, the performances of late haven't been great but we're looking to turn the page and it's a great period to do that and get a little bit of form with consecutive wins and great performances to go with that."

Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey could both feature against Palace after their respective spells on the sidelines and Steve Bruce wll confirm whether Callum Wilson is available at his press conference on Friday morning after the striker was not risked against Chelsea last time out.

The trip to the capital is the first of a potentially season-defining run of games for Newcastle. Between November 27 and December 22, the black-and-whites face Palace, Aston Villa, West Brom, Leeds and Fulham in the Premier League before a trip to Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
