Jamal Lewis' agent claims Newcastle United have bid £13.5million for Norwich star's services

Newcastle United are believed to have had a £13.5million bid for Jamal Lewis accepted - but the player is currently on international duty with Northern Ireland.

It is understood that Lewis' agent has briefed the Press on a possible move to Tyneside.

Toon first coach Steve Harper is currently with Lewis in the Northern Ireland camp and will have been able to advise on what is on offer at United this season if needed.

Lewis played his part in the 1-1 draw with Romania in the UEFA Nations League last night and faces Norway on Monday at Windsor Park.

Lewis, whose agent also represents Liverpool stars Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, saw a £10million offer for his services turned down last month and remains to be seen whether the champions now revive their interest after Newcastle's offer.

Speaking recently after Lewis' move to Liverpool fell through Kop and Newcastle legend Alan Kennedy said: "I would be telling Jamal and his representatives not to worry too much about it.

"He might need to go to another club in the meantime, but if he wants to play for Liverpool then go there and prove Liverpool wrong and show them you are worth the money."

The agent of Brazilian left-back Rogeiro claimed on Friday night that he was also close to a payday and a deal to sell the Sassuolo defender.

United are yet to confirm either deal but with just a week to go until the new season starts the club are under pressure to spend or be faced with a potential relegtion battle.
