Jamal Adams was hurt that Jets considered trading him: ‘Patriots don’t take calls on Tom Brady’

You often hear players say that the NFL is a business, but for Jets star safety Jamal Adams, he felt that first-year general manager Joe Douglas’ activity around the trade deadline was personal.

Adams was not traded on Tuesday, but Douglas did admit that he listened to offers for the Pro Bowl safety — though he did deny that he started any trade discussions for Adams.

Still, Adams was upset to even be considered an expendable player or possible trade bait. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Adams admitted that he was “hurt” by the team’s willingness to trade him. He added that neither the Rams nor the Patriots would take calls about Aaron Donald and Tom Brady.

Adams said:

“I woke up Monday morning, and I kinda found out through a couple reliable people that I have a lot of trust in that I was being shopped around. At the end of the day, I know that he has a job to do, and I respect it. But I hold myself in a high regard. I’ve done everything they’ve asked me to do since I’ve been here for the three years. I didn’t take that lightly. I really didn’t. When I heard that I got the call — when my agent called me, and he told me what was going on, it definitely hurt me. You know what I mean? I hold myself at a high level. The Rams, they don’t take calls on Aaron Donald. Patriots don’t take calls on Tom Brady. That’s where I hold myself in that regard.”

Adams had spent Tuesday tweeting his disproval for getting shopped on the trade block, saying that he wanted to be with the Jets.

Adams added on Wednesday that he did not regret his tweets.
