Jamal Adams unites with other stars to send powerful Black Lives Matter message to NFL

Jets safety Jamal Adams teamed up with his fellow NFL stars to send a powerful video message to the NFL on Thursday night.

The video, which features Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and numerous other stars around the league, calls for the NFL to listen to its players following the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derrick Chauvin.

Adams can be seen in the video asking the NFL to “condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people.” Adams also says “I am Breonna Taylor,” as the players in the video take turns naming black people who have been killed as a result of police brutality. The video ends with the players asking the league to allow peaceful protests and stating, plainly, “Black Lives Matter” in unison.

New York’s All-Pro safety has been extremely active on social media speaking out against social and racial injustices in the United States since Floyd’s death, issuing a statement pleading for police to “stop killing us” on Monday and scolding Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Bills quarterback Jake Fromm for insensitive remarks on Wednesday, telling both to “save the [expletives] apologies.”

Brees stated that he will “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States or our country” in response to a question regarding players kneeling during the national anthem. Meanwhile, leaked text messages from Fromm suggesting guns were “good” but suppressors should be made “very expensive so only elite white people can get them” surfaced.

A leader in the locker room since the Jets drafted him in 2017, Adams is now making it his mission to be a leader in the pursuit of the end of social and racial injustices in America. If his recent activity is any indication, don’t expect Adams to end his pursuit of change or to stop using his platform as a professional athlete anytime soon.
