Jamal Adams, Sam Darnold react to Andrew Luck’s retirement

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck shocked the NFL world Saturday night when he officially stepped away from the game.

Luck was one of the league’s top quarterbacks during his six-year career, but frequent injuries ultimately took his joy of the game away from him. Luck was well-respected and well-liked around the league by his peers and many of them were devastated to hear the news, including Jets Jamal Adams and Sam Darnold.

Adams took to Twitter to tip his hat toward Luck — and toe poke fun at his electronics choices.

Darnold, meanwhile, spoke to reporters following the Jets’ preseason game on Saturday.

“It sucks for the NFL to lose such a talented player,” Darnold said. “We were all looking forward to him playing great football this year. … It’s a bummer for the NFL and the whole league.”

Luck was exactly the type of person you wanted on your team. He suffered through a lot of painful injuries in his career, but frequently played throgh them. Players are well aware of what he went through and are glad he went out on his terms.

Many will wonder what could have been for Luck. When he was on the field, he was one of the league’s brightest stars. A four-time Pro Bowler, Comeback Player of the Year, and the owner of a 53-33 record, his career is over at 29 years old.

This was his choice, though, one he made to benefit his own physical and mental health.

No NFL player wants to see one of their fellow players go so soon, but injuries are part of playing in the league. Unfortunately, there were just too many for Luck to overcome. He will be missed dearly by football fans all over the world, but he’s doing what he believes is best for him.
