Jamal Adams effectively confirmed the report of his trade request after the safety once again took to Instagram to talk about his trade demand. Adams commented on a Jets fan account basically telling fans he is done with the team.
“It’s time to move on,” he wrote. “Let it go. Appreciate you guys. No hard feelings. Nothin but luv.”
It’s the culmination of a week’s worth of controversy and an offseason of uncertainty for Adams’ future with the team. Adams attacked the Jets’ lack of urgency to sign him to a lucrative contract extension a couple of times this offseason following a season in which he made his second consecutive Pro Bowl, earned his first All-Pro selection and led the team in multiple defensive statistics.
Adams wanted a new contract before the 2020 season, but the Jets wanted to wait until after the season since they control his contract through at least 2021. Joe Douglas said he wanted to make Adams a “Jet for life,” but Adams clearly doesn’t want that title anymore after the Jets reportedly made no serious efforts to negotiate the contract he feels he deserves.
Adams reportedly wants to be traded to a playoff team– he already laid out the teams he’s interested in joining. The Jets are under no obligation to meet his request, though, despite Adams’ public demands.
This was Adams’ most civil response to the reports, but until he gets a new deal or a team, the feud between him and the Jets won’t be over.
