Jamal Adams ‘at peace’ after chat with Christopher Johnson

Jamal Adams finally addressed the trade deadline rumors involving him with one of the Jets’ decision-makers, but it wasn’t Joe Douglas or Adam Gase doing the listening.

Rather, the safety spoke with Jets CEO Christopher Johnson on Thursday after a few days of publicly expressing his displeasure over Douglas listening to offers for him prior to Tuesday’s deadline.

“I’m at peace,” Adams said, adding that he plans to eventually talk with Douglas and Gase about the situation.

“I’m going to eventually talk to those guys, I’m just not ready to talk,” Adams continued. “At the end of the day, I’m a human. When you get into something that just happened like that. When you get into an argument, or whatever it is, a disagreement with somebody, some people handle it different ways. I do. I’m just not ready to talk.”

Adams said that Johnson was the one to reach out. After criticizing the team on social media and in sessions with reporters, Adams felt comfortable enough to meet with the Jets’ acting owner.

“It was good, it went well,” Adams said. “Me and Mr. Johnson are really close. I have a lot of respect for him. I was very comfortable because he understands me, not Jamal Adams as a football player but Jamal Adams as a person. And he’s very genuine and authentic and I’ve always had mutual respect for him. So that was a guy that I was comfortable with talking to and it went well.”

Adams being on speaking terms with at least one Jets head honcho is a sign of improvement for the situation, but the fact remains that this is a strained relationship. Regardless of who is in the right, one of Gang Green’s best players has reservations regarding some of the most important people in the organization.

Adams has been saying that he’s happy to remain a Jet, but he’s also admitted that his future in New York is unclear. Speaking to Johnson is a step in the right direction, but there’s more work to be done here.
