Jamaal Williams deliberately not scoring was a horrible bad beat for gamblers and fantasy owners

Ah, the old “runner with the football has a clear path to the end zone but deliberately falls to run out the clock” move. It’s timeless in football, and a one of the smartest things a player can do to help his team.

But it’s the most infuriating thing ever to fantasy football owners and, many times, to bettors, who scream “JUST SCORE C’MON NOOOOOOOO!”

That’s what happened during Monday night’s Green Bay Packers tilt against the Detroit Lions. The Lions were up 22-20 with no timeouts left and the Packers were at Detroit’s 11-yard line with a 1st and 10 and just over 1:30 left in the contest. Jamaal Williams took a handoff and saw daylight, mostly because it appeared the Lions’ defense wanted him to score.

But Williams countered them by sliding short of the goal line.
