Jamaal Lascelles on Newcastle United's training ground bust ups

Newcastle United club captain Jamaal Lascelles has provided an insight into training ground bust-ups at the club.

In a fascinating chat with The Getting Messi Podcast , Lascelles talked about defending against the likes of Mo Salah and Sergio Aguero, his England aspirations and tempers flaring on the training pitch.

"There have been loads of handbags all the time but in terms of a full-blown fight, it doesn't really happen because players jump in and break it up.

"I've seen players get hit, been hit myself but nothing that has been really messy.

"It can't happen really because the minute it does, the coach is jumping, the staff are breaking it up and the players are pulling each other away so it's nothing major."

Lascelles is known to be vocal in training and not afraid to call anyone out for a lack of effort during sessions.

Asked if players clashing is a regular occurrence, he said: "It's not happened for a while now - not last year but the year before we went through a spell where I don't know what it was.

"I think the level of competitiveness in training because we were just getting after it and everyone was like hungry and things used to always spark up where people lash out, grab each other and then it got broken up but it was nothing too crazy."
