Jalied: Student caught with customised Louis Vuitton handgun on train in east London

A student found carrying a Louis Vuitton branded handgun on the DLR has been jailed for two years.

Kenneth Okafor, 20, was arrested during a routine operation by British Transport Police tackling anti-social behaviour at All Saints station in Poplar, east London.

Alongside the homemade double-barrelled weapon, Okafor was also carrying a knife.

Officers investigating the case suggested he had an “unhealthy interest” in firearms.

A search of Okafor's house in Tower Hamlets in October last year unearthed an array of ammunition-making equipment.

The Louis Vuitton handgun was forensically examined and found to be feasibly capable of firing.

At Inner London Crown Court, Okafor was sentenced to 24 months in a young offender institution for possessing a firearm and ammunition and carrying a knife in a public place.

Detective Constable Mike Ganly, of BTP, said: “Okafor had an unhealthy interest in firearms and ammunition – both have no place on the rail network where they can put other passengers at risk. He has now experienced the consequences and will serve time.

“We patrol the rail network constantly and carry out pre-arranged, intelligence led operations on a weekly basis. Both ensure passengers can travel throughout the capital safely and that people committing offences are dealt with.”
