Jalen Ramsey, Todd Gurley expected to play vs. Falcons

Jalen Ramsey has only been with the Los Angeles Rams a few days, but it was apparently enough time for him to learn the playbook and suit up in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons. Sean McVay said at his press conference Friday that he expects Ramsey to play this weekend, which is great news for the Rams’ banged-up secondary.

In addition to Ramsey likely playing against Atlanta, McVay also expects Todd Gurley to be on the field Sunday. Gurley is recovering from a thigh contusion that caused him to miss Week 6 against the 49ers, but he’s made enough progress to be available after a one-week absence.

McVay did add a caveat, saying he’s not sure exactly how much Ramsey will play in the game.

“Those are things that we’re still working through. It’ll be good to see, hey, he’s feeling good, he’s feeling healthy, looks good running around. So, in terms of exactly what that workload looks like and how he fits into the game plan are things we’re working through right now,” he said.

Ramsey has never faced the Falcons, therefore he’s never matched up with Julio Jones. He’ll get that chance on Sunday, though. It would make sense for the Rams to stick Ramsey on Jones in man coverage, especially with the cornerback’s limited knowledge of the playbook so far.

McVay did share some bad news, however. Malcolm Brown is listed as doubtful for the game as he deals with an ankle injury suffered last week against the 49ers. That means Darrell Henderson will be Gurley’s backup if Brown can’t play.

With Brown likely out, McVay said “John Kelly would be up,” meaning he’ll be active on Sunday and be the third-string back.

Here’s the full injury report from Friday, which has Falcons CB Desmond Trufant ruled out for this game.
