JACKSONVILLE, Fla. _ It's not easy to remove all vestiges of an All-Pro.
Workers were doing just that on Thursday at TIAA Bank Field. With the trade of cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams comes the need to scrub his presence in a Jags uniform from signage outside the stadium.
Ramsey was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams late Monday for first-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021 and a fourth-round pick in 2021. It ended a month-long battle between Ramsey and the team in which he demanded a trade after a confrontation with senior vice-president of football operations Tom Coughlin after a 13-12 loss to Houston.
The two most prominent images of Ramsey were on large signs sponsored by Dream Finders Homes near Gate 1 and the practice field.
By 2 p.m., both were down although the one near Gate 1 required some acrobatics from the workers.
Ramsey's sign was in the middle between A.J. Bouye and Yannick Ngakoue, and connected by a series of hooks. Workers had to rappel over the side of the stadium and down, stopping every few feet to disconnect Ramsey's banner from his two former teammates.
Ramsey's picture also was on a panel truck and on a series of pennants hanging from light posts in the stadium parking lots.
There was still one place Ramsey's No. 20 was visible: the Jaguars on-line shopping site. The team was offering three Ramsey jerseys at discounted rates, $60 off a black NFL 100 2019 jersey ($89.99), $40 off a 2018 jersey ($59.99) and $30 off two kinds of "Legend" jersey ($49.99).
But the web site also promoted the NFL's return policy on the jerseys of players who have been traded. Fans who purchased a Jalen Ramsey jersey within 90 days of his trade on Monday are eligible to return it for either a Ramsey Rams jersey, or the jersey of another Jaguars player.
Pricing or returns of Ramsey jerseys purchased at retail shops are subject to the guidelines of those establishments.
