Jalen Ramsey questions Jaguars’ decision to target him on 4th down

Throwing in Jalen Ramsey’s direction is typically not a good idea. He’s arguably the best cornerback in football, capable of covering just about any wide receiver or tight end on the field.

Testing him on third or fourth down is an even worse idea. Yet, that’s what the Jaguars did on Sunday in their 37-7 loss to the Rams.

While trailing 23-7 in the third quarter, the Jaguars were facing fourth-and-1 from the Rams’ 37-yard line. It was the right call to go for it, but it was definitely a poor decision on Trevor Lawrence’s part to target James O’Shaughnessy, who was being covered by Ramsey.

Ramsey drove on the ball and broke up the pass, forcing the turnover on downs. Two days later, Ramsey still doesn’t know why the Jaguars tried him on fourth down – and with a tight end like O’Shaughnessy, too.

Ramsey allowed just one catch on four targets in Sunday’s win, continuing what’s been a fantastic season for the Pro Bowl corner. He should be well on his way to another All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection this year.
