Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts and Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown have struck up a friendship over the years.
Hurts says the friendship started when he was with Alabama and the Crimson Tide tried to recruit Brown, which didn’t succeed. Brown ended up playing his college ball at Ole Miss and was a second-round pick of the Titans in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Since then, Hurts and Brown have remained close friends, and he and the Titans receiver still talk and offer support for one another, per Buck Reising of A to Z Sports Nashville.
“It’s been very supportive. I’ve been very supportive of him, just talking about, like I said, it’s beyond football with me and him,” Hurts said during his presser at the NFL Combine. “He’s a great friend. It’s very cool to see him have the year he had this year and I know he’s hungry for more.”
The year Hurts is talking about saw Brown have a standout rookie season that included 1,051 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns. He was easily one of the most explosive players in all of football in 2019, as evidenced by his 20.2 yards per reception, the second-best mark in the NFL.
Unfortunately, Brown was snubbed for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Now it’s Hurts’ turn to go through the draft process like Brown did last year. The Titans receiver should be a great outlet for Hurts when it comes to getting advice from someone who has been there before.
