When guard Jalen Coleman-Lands committed to Illinois in 2014, he tweeted, "Looking forward to adding banners and accomplishing my academic goal."
On Thursday, he announced his decision to transfer from the program after two seasons, according to Scout.com.
Coleman-Lands will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. He was considered former coach John Groce's top recruit to play for him before Groce was fired in the offseason.
New Illini coach Brad Underwood has four open scholarship positions to fill and only five returning scholarship players from last season.
Coleman-Lands was the second Illinois player to transfer this month, following guard D.J. Williams.
Coleman-Lands was a key part of the rotation in his two seasons, but he saw his production drop last season from 10.3 points per game as a freshman to eight points per game as a sophomore. He had set the Illinois record for 3-pointers made in a season with 87 as a freshman.
The incoming class includes Illinois Mr. Basketball winner Mark Smith, point guard Trent Frazier, guard DaMonte Williams and graduate transfer Mark Alstork.
Underwood saw East St. Louis big man Jeremiah Tilmon and Belleville East guard Javon Pickett decommit after he took over for Groce.
Recruiting rumors have speculated that Coleman-Lands could land at DePaul, where his former prep school coach, Shane Heirman, was recently hired as an assistant.
