Jalen Coleman-Lands and Mitch Lightfoot spark Kansas in 76-67 win over George Mason

Kansas' No. 6-ranked men's basketball team will enter Big 12 Conference play Tuesday at Oklahoma State on a seven-game winning streak.

Senior guard Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 20 points in his most productive game at KU, while Mitch Lightfoot tied a career high with 14 points as the Jayhawks upended George Mason, 76-67, on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse.

Christian Braun contributed 14 points for Kansas and Ochai Agbaji 11 as the Jayhawks, who were playing without senior guard Remy Martin (swollen knee), were able to get past former Missouri guard Kim English's Patriots.

Jalen Wilson added eight points and seven rebounds as KU (11-1) won its 25th straight nonconference game in its tradition-rich building.

Coleman-Lands hit 7 of 9 shots and was 5 of 7 on three-pointers. Lightfoot was 7 of 7 from the field.

There were some empty seats in the corners for the game, which was added to the schedule on Wednesday afternoon. KU entered the game with 324 straight home sellouts dating to the 2001-02 season. KU indicated all seats were sold thus the sellout streak according to KU has stretched to 325 games.

Davonte Gaines scored 15, D'Shawn Schwartz 15. Josh Odoro 12, DeVon Cooper 11 and Xavier Johnson 11 for George Mason, which fell to 7-6 overall in English's first season at the Atlantic 10 Conference school. The Patriots earlier this year beat Maryland and Georgia on the road.

Coleman-Lands, who fouled out with 3 minutes, 45 seconds left, took advantage of 13 minutes of playing time in Martin's absence and scored 11 points the first half. His previous high for a game as a Jayhawk was 10 points versus Tarleton State on Nov. 12. He once had 26 points against Rutgers while playing for Illinois in 2016.

Wilson, who made his first start in place of Martin, had eight points the first half as did Lightfoot and Agbaji. Braun, who dunked to close the half and give KU an 11-point lead, had seven points and six assists the initial half

KU coach Bill Self said MRIs of Martin's knee were negative. It is believed Martin could have played if necessary.

The 33-year-old English, whom Self called a rising "star" in the coaching profession on Friday, is 0-1 as a head coach in Allen Fieldhouse after going 0-4 versus the Jayhawks during his days as a Missouri Tiger (2008-09 season to 2011-12).

KU opens the Big 12 campaign on Tuesday at Oklahoma State.

The Jayhawks do have a nonconference home game remaining against Kentucky in the SEC/Big 12 challenge on Jan. 29.
