Jalen Carter actually tried to pick off a Patrick Mahomes quarterback spike on MNF

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter tried to make a very rare defensive play on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Before the halftime break, Mahomes spiked the ball to help navigate a ticking clock and try to get points before heading into the locker room.

He was successful in the spike, like most quarterbacks usually are. However, Carter actually tried to pick the spike off before it hit the ground.

We do not see this very often from defensive linemen, so kudos to Carter for trying to take a dump of a play and turning it into a positive for the Eagles.

Hey, that’s about as close a pick on a quarterback spike as you’re likely to see in the NFL, and Carter went for the play that most wouldn’t even consider making.

Even if it didn’t work out, it’s neat that he even tried in the first place.
