JALANDHAR: Aam Aadmi Party convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday invoked the slogan of his party in the 2022 Assembly election – Ikk Mauka (one chance) – to his party in Jalandhar parliamentary by-election "as there would be no benefit of electing a Congress MP from the seat as in Punjab AAP runs the government".
"Jalandhar had a Congress MP for the last 60 years but they did not do anything for the area. Give us one chance, have faith in us and in place of Congress give us vote," he said while addressing a rally in Jalandhar which was also addressed by Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann in support of party candidate Sushil Rinku. It was Kejriwal’s first public rally in the constituency during the run up to the elections.
"If you would vote for Congress what will be the benefit? In Punjab we have the government and we have to do things for you. You will come to us for works. If you will vote for Congress then the MP would keep on fighting daily. If you want daily fights then vote for them and if you want to get the things done, get the mountains of waste cleared, then give one chance to AAP," he said as he reiterated his parties tagline "Ikk mauka AAP nu".
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also said that voting for Congress would be wastage of votes. "If they sit together it becomes news. They pretend to unite but when they sit together they only think about how to damage each other. Don’t waste your votes by voting for Congress," he said.
The specific attacks on Congress by both the leaders came in the wake of the legacy of the seat as barring four times in the last over five decades, Congress has been winning the seat.
