Japan Airlines Co. stopped using the phrase "ladies and gentlemen" in their English cabin announcements on Thursday, with "all passengers" taking its place. English announcements are made on board aircraft and at airport gates, and the gender-definitive expression was changed on all JAL flights starting Thursday. In airports, other gender-free announcements such as "good morning" were also implemented.
"We thought it was better to use neutral expressions rather than gender-specific expressions," the company's public relations department said.
