Japan Airlines has decided to apply an anti-viral, anti-bacterial treatment to the interiors of all 230 of its aircraft by July.

The seats and walls will be sprayed with chemicals that are harmless to the human body, in a bid to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The chemicals are effective in suppressing the activity of viruses such as the novel coronavirus and influenza, with benefits said to last for three to five years.

JAL decided to apply the treatment because it has been confirmed to be safe for flights, with no risk of catching fire. The company has already started spraying the chemicals on seats, seat belts, luggage racks and other areas that are likely to be touched by passengers.
