Japan Airlines announced Wednesday that it is canceling some domestic flights due to a drop in passengers caused by the new coronavirus.

The airline said it would cancel 352 flights in total from Friday to March 12, mainly those connecting Haneda Airport with such cities as Sapporo, Fukuoka and Osaka (Itami). JAL judged that demand for flights has decreased due to the cancellation and postponement of sports and cultural events nationwide.

"This is the first time that we have canceled this many flights," a JAL spokesperson said.

All Nippon Airways also decided Wednesday to cut 206 flights from Friday until March 12, mainly those between Haneda and destinations including Sapporo, Osaka and Fukuoka.
