Jakub Swierczok tipped for Rangers transfer but loan agreement means Poland striker's future hangs in balance

The focus is all on this historic season but Rangers are reportedly targeting a summer arrival from Poland.

Ludogorets striker Jakub Swierczok, 27, has been identified as a potential Ibrox target after a prolific start to a loan spell back in his homeland of Poland at Piast Gliwice.

The frontman has bagged four goals in his last four games to go with his 11 goals in 32 matches at the Bulgarian champions last season.

Polish outlet newonce.sport claim Steven Gerrard could be able to snare the three-times capped star on a bargain €500k (£454k) deal.

However that's at the mercy of his loan club, who have a first option to buy him from Ludogorets as part of this season's deal.

Piast sporting director Bogdan Wilk said: "We still have a lot of time to decide on the possible purchase of Jakub from Bulgaria. We have to decide shortly before the end of the season.

"Ludogorets have said it is not possible to transfer Swierczok in winter."

It's also said that the scouting focus of Rangers has shifted towards players from Central and Eastern Europe - and that the signing of Swierczok may depend on a possible sale for Alfredo Morelos or the potential retirement of Jermain Defoe.
