Jakub Kiwior Arsenal shirt number revealed as Edu completes second January signing in £21m deal

Arsenal have confirmed their second January signing with the transfer of Jakub Kiwior from Spezia for a fee in the region of £21million. The 22-year-old joins Leandro Trossard as new arrivals in north London for the winter window.

An initial fee of £17.5million will be paid to Spezia with a potential further £3.5million in add-ons. His contract will last until 2027, with the option to extend for a further year.

The Polish international has already proven why he can be a shrewd signing for the Gunners with his versatility likely a key reason why Edu and Mikel Arteta have chosen to bring him to the club.

While also playing in the Anderlecht youth academy for a number of years, he has been deployed all across midfield in his senior career, with particular impressive stints in a holding role at Spezia, before being shifted to play on the left of a back three this season.

Spezia Sporting Director Stefano Melissano revealed his thoughts on the transfer on Monday. Speaking to Dazn, via Calcio Mercato, before the deal was confirmed, Melissano said: “It’s a pride for everyone, from the club to the player. We are proud and happy that Jakub has this experience in one of the top ten clubs in the world.

“We’ve lost an excellent player and youngster, but we are still Spezia, we’ll continue to have our identity. We’re happy, our transfer market was the result of work planned previously."

Kiwior will wear the No. 15 shirt for Arsenal last worn by Ainsley Maitland-Niles who is currently on loan at Southampton.
