Jake Quickenden says I'm A Celeb team made him 'feel invisible' and spin-off is needless

Jake Quickenden has revealed the production team on I’m A Celebrity... Get me Out Of Here! made him ‘feel invisible’ when he took part in the show in 2014.

The former X Factor star came runner up in the jungle that year, losing out on the top spot to superbike racer Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty.

He was a hit with fans and has gone to have a successful TV career – winning Dancing on Ice in 2018 and appearing as a regular on This Morning.

But ahead of I’m A Celebrity All Stars airing on Monday April 24 to celebrate the ITV show’s 20th anniversary, Jake has dished the dirt on what it was really like in the jungle.

Sharing a secret most fans won’t know, Jake revealed the crew aren’t allowed to talk to the celebrities on the show.

“The cameraman are not allowed to talk to you, so when you do a trial, you’ve obviously got a few following you," he says in a new interview for Betway Casino.

“I remember one of them had Tic Tacs and I was like, ‘Can I please have a Tic Tac?’

“He obviously wasn’t allowed to talk to me and wasn’t allowed to give me one.”

Former footballer Jake said he also used to try and ask the crew to tell him football scores “but they’d never talk to you”.

He continued: “It’s like you’re invisible. It’s weird, but it’s so funny trying to wind them up.”

Jake won’t be appearing in the All Stars show, which features the likes of Carol Vorderman, Gillian McKeith, Shaun Ryder, Paul Burrell and Helen Flanagan.

Myleene Klass – famous for her white bikini moment on the show – Dean Gaffney, Jordan Banjo, Amir Khan and Phil Tuffnell also star.

The ‘world’s first supermodel’ Janice Dickinson and Olympian Fatima Whitbread complete the line-up.

The new show will see the former campmates compete against each other to be crowned the first I’m A Celebrity legend.

In a change to the usual format, it has been filmed in South Africa instead of Australia.

Asked if he thought an All Stars series was needed, Jake said: “I don’t think it was, but it’s cool that it’s here.”

He joked that although the line-up was “great”, it would “maybe be a tiny little bit better if I was in there”.

Throwing his hat in the ring for future series, he shared: “You never know, they might be do a few more All Stars and I’d love to get involved.”

Revealing who else he’d like to see in an All Stars version of the show, he added: “I would have loved to see Jimmy Bullard back in there if I’m honest. He was brilliant.

“I quite like Dougie Poytner when he was in it. Stacey Solomon would have been great to have back in there too. She was really entertaining. Kerry Katona when she won, she was one of the first to win it. She was a real good laugh.”

These days Jake is married to therapist wife and influencer Sophie and they share two-year-old son Theo. Jake is also stepdad to Sophie's older son Freddie.

* I'm A Celebrity...South Africa starts Monday 24th April at 21.00 on ITV1 & ITVX.
