Jake Paul wants fight with "cuckoo" Julio Cesar Chavez Jr after "bold demands"

Jake Paul wants to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, but has concerns over his mental state and whether the former world champion would even show up.

Chavez Jr has demanded more than the initial £2.2million offered to him for the fight, which would see him move up to cruiserweight to take on Paul at the age of 35.

He has struggled with a number of issues in the sport including failed drug tests, missing weight and at quitting in his fight against Daniel Jacobs.

But a bout with Paul would catapult him back to mainstream attention, and likely earn him similar money to when he was a world champion or fighting the likes of Canelo Alvarez.

Paul, on the other hand, has just had a fighter pull out of a big pay-per-view fight on short notice in Tommy Fury, and there are fears that Chavez Jr wouldn't take the event seriously.

"I want the fight," Paul told Mirror Fighting yesterday in London at a press conference for Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano.

"We have to figure out the set-up of it - obviously he's making bold asks right off the jump.

"But he's a little cuckoo, I think everybody in the boxing industry knows that he's a little cuckoo.

"So we'll see, I want the fight but some people are saying he might not even show up."

Chavez Jr at one point was a major player in the sport, but has drifted due to those aforementioned controversies, and famously lost to 46-year-old UFC legend Anderson Silva last summer.

Since losing to Canelo Alvarez back in 2017, Chavez Jr has struggled to reclaim control over his career, going 3-3 in his six fights including humiliating defeats to Silva and Jacobs.

When he fought Silva last summer, the former UFC middleweight champion had just been released from the promotion under recommendation from Dana White that he retire after losing six of his last seven fights.

Chavez Jr has said that he would be willing to fight Paul for free if he loses, saying he wants a "winner take all" battle for the world title.

"I'm going to beat Jake Paul's a**," Chavez Jr said during an Instagram live feed with Mexican actor Poncho De Nigris.

"Don't be confident, I assure you I will beat Jake Paul's a**, they're not hearing me.

"They want to charge more but they keep forgetting that I'm the boxer.

"I want the winner to take all when I fight Jake Paul; the winner takes all of the money, we're risking our lives in the ring and I want the promoter to take a lower percentage.

"It's going to be great business for everyone."

Paul is currently taking an extended break from the ring to focus on promoting Taylor vs Serrano alongside Eddie Hearn.

The undisputed lightweight world title fight takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York on April 30.
