Jake Paul defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision on his return to the ring following his widely panned win over heavyweight legend Mike Tyson last November.
28-year-old Paul dominated the bulk of the fight but Chavez Jr offered little resistance across the first eight rounds. He had a solid gameplan to keep Chavez Jr at bay and work the body with wide right hooks which kept the Mexican at distance.

Chavez Jr later admitted he was surprised with Paul’s skills across the first four rounds but waited for him to tire in the latter stages. Chavez Jr landed more shots in the final two rounds and seemingly had Paul rocked before running out of time.
Paul extends his professional record to 12 wins and one defeat from 13 fights and wants to pursue a world title shot going forward though that goal is still a long way off.

After Mike Tyson travesty, Jake Paul faces his first serious boxing match
01:10 , Alex PattleThis pairing with Chavez Jr, 39, marks somewhat of a return to form for Paul in terms of his matchmaking.
While some observers clung to the hope that Tyson could be a fraction of the “Baddest Man on the Planet” that he once was, that this would be enough to knock out Paul, it was never going to happen.
The real question surrounding the bout was whether the younger American, who has committed himself to the sport more than the average person realises, would actually try to stop Tyson. Paul did not try, which was simultaneously a merciful act and the biggest issue with that carnivalesque contest: its lack of authenticity.
It was never a balanced match-up, but people believed it was, because they wished it to be. In contrast, Paul’s previous contests were at least closer to ticking that box, even if they almost always leaned in his favour when put under the microscope.
Paul’s sole loss, against Tommy Fury, proved the exception. It was a serious test for Paul, although it was not necessarily a serious match-up more generally, given Paul’s background and the fact that Fury is not the boxer his family wants you to think he is.
Still, another serious test may wait this evening.

After Mike Tyson travesty, Jake Paul faces his first serious fight
Inside Paul’s training: Double days, ‘brutal’ track sessions and 1,000-rep workouts
01:20 , Harry BullmorePaul’s journey to professional boxing is far from conventional. While his pedigree in the sport is regularly debated online, his work ethic rarely is.
His ambitions are equally unambiguous, with the 28-year-old telling DAZN: “The main goal now is to get a belt, that’s the only thing I haven’t accomplished in the sport of boxing. I’ve won knockout of the year, [I won the] most-viewed fight ever, so for me the only thing that’s left is to become world champion.”
To achieve this, Paul’s strength and conditioning coach and Let’s Build Champions author Larry Wade has been subjecting the star to an intense pre-fight training camp containing double training days, ‘brutal’ track sessions and 1,000-rep abs workouts.
This is what a week in the life of a YouTuber-turned-professional boxer with world-topping aspirations looks like:

The secret recovery tool helping Chavez Jr prepare for Paul clash
01:30 , Harry BullmoreChavez Jr has been less forthcoming than Paul with details about his preparations.
There is one clip from last month showing Chavez Jr hitting a circuit of hurdles, sled pushes, Versaclimber intervals, slam ball chest throws and battle ropes, dressed in head-to-toe sweats. But beyond this, training insights have been few and far between.
A recent video with DAZN captures him working through some footwork techniques, with coach Jorge Capetillo revealing his “conditioning is very well [sic] – he’s been doing between 10 and 12 rounds [in training] so I feel comfortable he will put in a great performance”. After this, Chavez Jr heads home to put his feet up on the sofa while watching TV with his team.
As he does this, he is zipped into a pair of inflating boots that rise up to his hips. So what are these odd-looking contraptions, and how could they help Chavez Jr’s training efforts?

Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
02:50 , Mike JonesHow will Chavez Jr go?
Two of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's last three fights have been against ex-UFC fighters.
In 2021 he lost to 46-year-old Anderson Silva which was a low point of his recent career.
He’s only fought three times since then and may come into tonight’s headline event a little undercooked.
Chavez Jr on Jake Paul
03:00 , Mike JonesJulio Cesar Chavez Jr doesn’t believe that Jake Paul is a good fighter despite the 28-year-old claiming otherwsie.
"No, I don't think he's good. I think he tries, he trains hard, but he's not a good fighter," Chavez Jr said. "He's definitely not a good boxer.
"If he were a good boxer, then everyone else on this stage would be a legend. I don't think he's a good boxer, and everybody knows that."

Raul “Cugar” Curiel vs Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez
03:10 , Mike JonesNext up Mexico’s Raul Curiel takes on Uruguay’s Victor Rodriguez.
Rodriguez comes out first and looks composed. A slight raise of the first to acknowledge the fans as he approaches the ring.
Curiel strides out to the ring wearing a sombrero. He seems more relaxed about the fight to come but the match ups on Jake Paul’s undercards tend to be close affairs.
Let’s see how this one goes.
Raul “Cugar” Curiel vs Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez
03:16 , Mike JonesRound 1
This fight is a WBA eliminator. Both fighters receive their instructions ahead of the first bell.
Raul Curiel keeps his head down and is focused already. The bell rings and he steps forward to try and take control early on.
A few jabs from Rodriguez keeps him on his toes though. Curiel throws a couple of body shots, Rodriguez leads with his jab.
Rodriguez gets in close and lands a right to the body, Curiel is taking the shots and responding with some glancing hits of his own.
A decent opening round, too close to call.
Raul “Cugar” Curiel vs Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez
03:20 , Mike JonesRound 2
Jab and move, jab and move. That seems to be the advice given to Raul Curiel from his corner.
He certainly attempts that strategy at the start of this second round.
Both fighters are landing punches but nothing big and heavy as yet.
Oh my. Curiel throw a three punch combo: left, right, uppercut and Rodriguez stands and takes them all.
Rodriguez is over aggression at the end of the round and Curiel lands a counter-right. Good shot, probably enough to clinch the round for him.
Raul “Cugar” Curiel vs Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez
03:24 , Mike JonesRound 3
Rodriguez has been the aggressor and lands a nice left hand. He’s peppering the body and repeatedly getting in close to Curiel limiting the damage he receives.
A good left hook from Rodriguez lands on the side of Curiel’s head.
Rodriguez then misses and takes a flurry of shots in response.
Another tight round. It’s another guess as to who’s leading on the scorecards at present.
Raul “Cugar” Curiel vs Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez

Yuniel Dorticos has a 93% knockout ratio with 25 of his 27 fights ending early.
This fight is a 12 round affair. It could go the distance but I can’t see it personally.
Zurdo Ramirez seems to have this nailed on but we’ll see how things pan out.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos
03:58 , Mike JonesYuniel Dorticos shuffles out to the ring.
He has the longer reach of the two fighters and said before the fight that ‘either I’m going to kill him or he’s going to kill me’.
That’s hyperbole but he’ll attempt to take the fight to Ramirez tonight.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos
04:02 , Mike JonesZurdo Ramirez is the reigning WBO and WBA champion.
Yuniel Dorticos has a shot at claiming a world title at the age of 39 but can he take it?

There’s a lunge from the Mexican as he tries to get inside.
He drops and targets the body with a straight left. Being a southpaw gives him an added dimension in this fight.
Ramirez is lighter on his feet but Dorticos has power if he can land his shots.

A nice three-punch combo from Ramirez is a response he needed.
Dorticos lands a straight right hand and has started this fight quicker. He’s the aggressor by far.
Ramirez lands a left hook on the body right at the end of the round but it’s probably not enough to take the round from Dorticos.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos

04:28 , Mike JonesRound 6
A nice left hook from Dorticos rattles Ramirez’s head.
Dorticos is dictating again but Ramirez’s is slowly working the body then moves quickly up to the head and nearly lands a massive blow.
A competitive round ends well for Ramirez with two or three punches landing inside the final 10 seconds.
Halfway through the fight now, I’ve no clue which way this is being scored. Probably three rounds each for both fighters.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos
04:32 , Mike JonesRound 7
Ramirez has landed 40 body shots over the first six rounds which has been the bulk of his work. It’s not been bombastic but it’s been consistent.
The closer Ramirez gets to Dorticos the more combinations he’s throwing. He’s been biding his time to get inside of Dorticos’s reach.
A good left hook clips Dorticos on the side of the head. It’s not a truly clean blow and Dorticos shrugs it off.
Zurdo Ramirez seems to have woken up.

04:36 , Mike JonesRound 8
There’s more success for Ramirez as he goes low, low, low then moves up top and finds a shot to the head.
Dorticos seems to be trying to catch his breath slightly. He’s five years older than Ramirez and that will have some bearing as this fight goes on.
A less intense round but some decent combinations from Ramirez.
Still too close to call.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos

A couple of nice body shots and a clean uppercut from Ramirez shows he’s going through the gears again.
Both fighters swing and land at each other but Ramirez doesn’t seem too bothered by the punches landing.
Dorticos might be out of gas. He’s still swinging but the tempo and intensity of the earlier rounds isn’t there anymore.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos
04:45 , Mike JonesRound 10
Ramirez defends well as Dorticos looks for a combination to the head.
He tries to keep Ramirez at bay and goes low below the belt three times in a row!
The referee docks a point from Dorticos which could prove crucial.
Dorticos might need a knockout now and lands a good left hook. Ramirez works the body is response then switches to the head for a one-two.

Dorticos needs a knockout or at least a knockdown but his power doesn’t seem to be there anymore.
